Vauxhall Corsa GSE in Newry County Down
The Corsa GSE is a high-performance electric hot hatch. Sitting lower and wider than the standard Corsa, it packs an electric motor producing 281 PS (278 bhp) and 345 Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential, propelling it from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds. Fitted with a 54 kWh battery pack, uprated Alcon brakes, and a track-focused chassis tune, it reimagines the traditional pocket-rocket formula for the zero-emission era.
Design
Visually, the GSE elevates the familiar supermini profile into something far more aggressive. It sits 10mm lower to the ground with tracks widened by 56mm up front and 28mm at the rear, giving it an inherently planted stance. The front end features the signature dark Vizor grille flanked by high-gloss black aero inserts, extended wheel arch cladding, and bright yellow brake calipers visible through bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin receives a motorsport makeover with deeply bolstered Alcantara sports seats, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, and subtle neon highlights.
Drive
On the road, the instant electric torque delivers immediate, punchy acceleration without requiring gear changes. Beyond straight-line speed, engineers reworked the suspension using stiffened springs, hydraulic bump stops, and negative camber on the front wheels to dial in sharp cornering response. The Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential pulls the front end through tight corners with impressive traction, taming wheelspin. Heavy-duty 355mm Alcon front brake discs provide confident stopping power, giving the GSE the agile, energetic handling expected from a true hot hatch.
Practicality
Despite its performance bias, the GSE retains the core footprint and day-to-day usability of a standard five-door Corsa. Interior space easily accommodates four adults for short trips, and the rear seat bench folds down to expand cargo capacity when needed. Boot volume remains respectable for the B-segment class, handling everyday groceries or carry-on luggage without compromise. The firm sports seats remain supportive on longer highway drives, ensuring performance credentials don't come at the total expense of passenger comfort.
Living with it
Operating as a daily driver, the 54 kWh battery yields a usable real-world range around 220 miles depending on driving style and conditions. Charging capability allows a 10-80% top-up in roughly 30 minutes at a standard 100 kW DC fast-charging station. Driver assistance technologies, a modern touchscreen infotainment suite with smartphone mirroring, and selectable drive modes make commuting effortless. Switch it to Eco mode for smooth efficiency around town, or dial up Sport mode on twisty back roads to unleash its full 281 PS potential.
